The Yoga and Meditation

Twice-daily Yoga and meditation will nurture your body-mind and help you to nestle into the tranquillity and mindful awareness of the retreat.

Each morning, Hatha Yoga will focus on unfurling tension and creating an expansive space of rejuvenation throughout your body.

Gentle pranayama (breathing practices) will help regulate your nervous system as you switch off from the digital world and switch on to the nature that surrounds you.

Guided meditations throughout the weekend, including on the hike, will help slow the activity of the mind to gain perspective on your life.

Each day will conclude with gentle Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra to recover the body, restore spent energy and prepare you for deep, replenishing sleep.

The retreat is suitable for people who are new to Yoga and meditation, and for those who have been practicing for a while. All props to support your practice are provided.

Your weekend is spent immersed in the private, tranquil setting of Numby Station, surrounded by cooling rivers, expansive hilltops and native woodland.

Numby Station is a 6,000ha property situated on the banks of the upper reaches of the Lachlan River in Wiradjuri country.  5 different creeks feed into the river at various points as it meanders through the property.

You will spend Saturday exploring the diverse landscape on a guided hike with Lou. The day starts on undulating hills before you climb the major hill summit. As you take in the views, you will be guided through an expansive and centring mountaintop meditation to pull everything in your life into perspective.

Descending through grassland and native woodlands, you’ll stay relatively close to water level for the remainder of the day, criss-crossing shallow creeks and exploring historic huts amongst an abundance of native wildlife, birds and plant species.

Nourishing morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be enjoyed on the hike before returning to base camp for Happy Hour on the deck.

You will occasionally walk along farm tracks but a good portion of the day will be on uneven surfaces or through long grass, with no defined track.

This 15km return hike requires a moderate level of fitness, with steep sections on an unsealed walking track.

Please read the FAQ below prior to booking to understand the wet weather plan and your level of fitness required for the hike.

The Accommodation

Tucked away beside a meandering creek, Rosewood Cottage evokes the spirit of the early settlers - Australian men and women living in a time that was intrinsic to our nation’s rich agricultural and pastoral history.

At Rosewood Cottage Basecamp, you’ll experience the ultimate mix of luxury and connection with nature that you need to fully rest your body, mind and spirit.

Rosewood Cottage is your space for warming up by the fire, enjoying sumptuous meals with friends and perusing the library. With no internet/phone reception, you’ll experience the freedom of an unplugged digital detox.

The rustic nature and gentle patina of this aging beauty has been purposefully preserved as a piece of living history and provides the backdrop to your luxury glamping accommodation.

Rosewood Cottage Basecamp is in close proximity to the Mulgowrie Creek, where you can retreat to for a swim, a picnic or a walk during free time.

Set in the sheltered gardens of Rosewood Cottage are the large glamping tents, where you will rest and sleep deeply in comfortable warmth. All bell tents are twin-share, complete with incredibly comfortable beds, high quality woollen bedding and hot water bottles.

Hot showers with a view of the expansive sky and flushing toilets complete your luxury glamping experience.

Enjoy a weekend of complete nutritional nourishment, with Heidi from Homestead Traders lovingly preparing all your meals.

You will be provided with the very best fresh, local, seasonal produce we can lay our hands on. Heidi’s wholesome paddock-to-plate homestyle cooking is nourishing and hearty with a focus on using premium quality ingredients and local, homegrown produce.

Your welcome to Rosewood Cottage basecamp on Friday includes a refreshingly cold, lightly sparkling glass of Numby’s signature house made Lemon Verbena & Rosemary Cordial.

Each evening, enjoy Happy Hour on the cottage deck or by the fire pit with alfresco drinks and share platters of mixed cheeses, homemade dips, pastes, charcuterie, breads and crackers.

FAQs

  • My retreats are attended by people of all levels of experience, from beginners to experienced students; by people with varied levels of physical ability and mobility; and by people living in all kinds of bodies. Yoga sessions in retreats are set at a pace that meets your needs, with options to support your unique body, and are suitable for pregnant and postnatal students. A moderate level of fitness is required for the hiking component of the retreat.

  • The hike on Day 2 is a 15 km walk, with steep sections on a rough, unsealed track with obstacles.

This 8 hour return hike requires a moderate level of fitness. You will need to be able to climb or step over the occasional fallen tree trunk and between rocks, and be able to cross shallow creeks.

  • You will receive a full packing list in your welcome package prior to the retreat. The most important things include shoes - some good, broken in walking shoes (not runners or brand new hiking boots you bought on the way, trust us, wear them in!) and some wet shoes such as crocs or reef sandals as your hike will take you through the odd refreshing knee-deep creek, a lightweight raincoat/poncho and a lightweight daypack.

  • The entire retreat is catered, from afternoon tea on Day 1 to lunch on Day 3. Dietary requirements will be accommodated for.

  • We will walk in nearly all weather so bring appropriate protection from rain and cold. Layers are best. You will also have the option to stay at basecamp if you prefer not to brave the rain or your guide decides that conditions are not safe. On the very rare occasion we receive a huge amount of rain leading to the river becoming swollen and blocking our access to Numby, the retreat weekend will be cancelled.

  • All accommodation on the retreat is twin share in luxury bell tents.

  • Your luxury bell tent accommodation includes an incredibly comfortable single bed with woollen bedding and a hot water bottle to keep you toasty throughout the night.

  • Numby station is near Reids Flat, between Boorowa and Cowra. Travel to Numby is via car and then guests are transferred to basecamp by the host in a 4WD.

    Approximate travel times:
    Boorowa 45 minutes
    Young 1 hr 20 minutes
    Cowra 1 hour
    Canberra 2 hours
    Orange & Bathurst 2 hours
    Sydney 4 hours

A map and detailed directions are included in your retreat welcome pack.

  • Numby has no phone reception on
99%of the property. A highlight, in
many people's opinion. Alternative emergency communication is available if required.

Meet your Hosts

Helen Johnson

Helen is a Yoga and meditation teacher and owner of Nurture Yoga and Meditation in Young, NSW.

Passionate about guiding people to slow down and create stillness with Yoga, she specialises in supporting others to integrate traditional Yogic teachings and practices in modern life.

Helen’s seasonal retreats are popular as an opportunity to reset, connect with self and feel nurtured and refreshed. She loves bringing people together from all over NSW and the ACT in these special connection-forging events.

When not teaching Yoga, you’ll find Helen creating memories with her children, supporting women through her other love, Hilltops Women’s Health, or immersed in her garden.

Lou Crawford

Lou is a 5th generation farmer from Booligal NSW, she joined her husband Dave in running Numby Station in 2013.

Over the years Lou hosted countless friends and family, packing a picnic and taking to the hills to show off the landscape she loved. As every guest became just as enamored as she was with the rolling hills and dramatic gorges,  an idea began to germinate.

Being the sort to give just about anything a go, the most recent 3 years were spent restoring and rebuilding Rosewood Cottage and developing the business that is now Rove Numby. From the repointed stonework, rebuilt floors and repaired walls, you can see Lou's respectful handiwork and love of it's history throughout the cottage.

With her genuine passion for and knowledge of agriculture, history and her natural environment, Lou has a wealth of information to share as she welcomes guests and hikes them through the hills and valleys of her backyard.

Heidi Castleden

Heidi lives in the next valley over from Numby Station with her family at Hovells Creek. From there she runs Homestead Traders, a small-scale produce and flower farm with a dash of catering on the side.

Having been friends with Lou for some years, and sharing that 'give it a try' nature, Heidi was onboard with the Rove Numby concept from day one.

As the best ideas often do, the collaboration between Homestead Traders and Rove Numby naturally evolved over time. Through days spent at Rosewood Cottage, helping Lou patch the last few holes in the walls and talking through the nitty gritty of what the Rove experience would be, the bare bones idea - Lou hikes and Heidi cooks, slowly took shape, and a partnership was born and we can't imagine a better one!

Heidi's food style is best described as elevated homestyle cooking, nourishing and hearty with a focus on using premium quality ingredients and local, homegrown produce.
